Bagged salad maker Ready Pac Foods, Inc., has issued a recall of several products containing Romaine lettuce which may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria, according to the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation.

DEC says the salads’ use-by dates can be found on the upper-left-hand corner of the package, with UPC numbers on the back side of the bag.
While no cases of illness have yet been reported anywhere in relation to the recall, E. coli is potentially deadly. Symptoms of the bacteria may include bloody diarrhea, dehydration and kidney failure, with young children and senior citizens most vulnerable to severe complications of E. coli-related illnesses. Anyone who experiences symptoms of the illnesses should immediately consult a health care provider.
Anyone who bought the affected products are asked to record the Use-by Date and UPC number, immediately dispose of the product, and contact Ready Pac’s consumer affairs representatives toll-free at 1-800-800-7822, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Alaska time, for refund information.
