2. Does the absence of Jared Gaither impact this game?
The former Ravens and Maryland offensive tackle was placed on injured reserve Friday with a groin injury, ending his season.
Disappointing the Chargers with his unreliable health and play, Gaither nonetheless shut down outside linebacker Terrell Suggs last season. Suggs generated only two tackles and was held to no sacks. With Gaither out, the Chargers are relying on undrafted free agent rookie Michael Harris at left tackle. Harris is a 6-foot-5, 318-pounder from UCLA who has started six games. In those starts, though, he's managed to give up four sacks, five quarterback hits and 31 quarterback pressures while committing six penalties, according to Pro Football Focus. Not good, obviously. Suggs should be licking his chops at this matchup, especially considering he doesn't have a sack since recording one against the Houston Texans during his first game back from a partially torn right Achilles tendon. Not that he'll be overconfident against a San Diego team that has lost five of its past six games. "Very dangerous. Wins in the NFL are very hard to come by," Suggs said. "You don't want to overlook anybody. You all recall we lost to a team [Miami Dolphins] that hadn't won a game in 2007, and we were the first game they won. So, you definitely can't overlook anybody. This team is very dangerous. They have a lot of weapons, and they have a very good offense." |
