The Annapolis Youth Chorus will hold auditions for the coming concert season from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 18, at St. Anne's Church, 199 Duke of Gloucester St. in Annapolis. Singers will be asked to sing the first verse of "America the Beautiful" and one other prepared piece — a folk song, Broadway show tune or hymn. Depending on ability level, singers may also be asked to read a simple melodic and/or rhythmic line. Each audition lasts about 10 minutes. Tours of the Thomas Point Lighthouse continue Saturday, Aug. 18 and Sept. 8. There are three tours a day, at 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m., and visitors can learn about how lighthouse keepers lived, other lighthouses on the Chesapeake Bay and how many are still around. Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts will host its annual fundraising event, "Arts Alive," from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 7. The event raises funds for the hall's year-round arts-related programs. "An Evening in Paris" takes place in a tent on the front lawn and will feature silent and live auctions, a raffle and musical entertainment. There will also be tasting stations featuring signature dishes and drinks from area restaurants, caterers and hotels.
