City Winery Chicago, a 300-capacity concert hall in the West Loop, will open Aug. 1 and announced a full slate of performers Tuesday for the 2012 season, including singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash, gospel great Mavis Staples and jazz vocalist Kurt Elling.
A few months ago, City Winery hired longtime Chicago talent buyer Colleen Miller as its program director. Miller had spent the previous 17 years as the booking agent at the Old Town School of Folk Music, and her impact was immediately apparent in an eclectic lineup that covers bluegrass, soul, world music, blues and rock.
The venue at 1200 W. Randolph St. will offer table seating and dining service, says owner Michael Dorf, who has already had success since 2008 with a similar concept at City Winery in New York.
