FBI officials were searching for a man dubbed the "Stringer Bell" bandit who is believed to be behind five bank robberies in the Loop, including one on Thursday.
The latest robbery happened at about 1 p.m. Thursday at a Citibank branch at 11 S. LaSalle Street, said FBI Spokeswoman Joan Hyde.
In each of the robberies the man gave a bank teller a note that implied he had a weapon even though a weapon has not been displayed, Hyde said.
The man is being dubbed the "Stringer Bell Bandit" because he looks similar to a lead character in the HBO hit television show The Wire.
The man is described as black, between 40 to 45 years old and is 5-foot-8 inches tall. He has his head covered by hats in each case.
In addition to the latest robbery, he is suspected in a robbery on Oct. 10, at the Citibank branch, 222 W. Adams St.; Oct. 17 in the Citibank branch, 69 W. Washington St.; a robbery on Oct. 23, at the PNC Bank branch, 55 W. Monroe St.; a robbery on Nov. 2, at the Fifth Third Bank Branch, 1 South Dearborn St.
