A couple who left a 23-year-old woman with their 13-month-old on Christmas Eve found the woman falling-down drunk when they returned to their River North neighborhood home, police said.
The child was not injured during the Monday night incident but the baby sitter, of the 100 block of North Michigan Avenue, was charged with misdemeanor endangering the health of a child, police said.
The baby’s parents left the baby sitter about 11:15 a.m. Monday at their home in the 500 block of West Huron Street, but when they came home at 4:30 p.m. she was “slumped against the kitchen counter with her hands on her head,’’ according to a police report.
She tried to walk but fell multiple times, hitting her head, the report said. The baby’s mother became alarmed, helped her to the couch and called for an ambulance.
The baby sitter was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where her blood alcohol content was measured at 0.362 percent – more than four times the legal limit of 0.08 percent for driving, the report said. She was arrested at 11:55 p.m. at the hospital.
She has no prior criminal history, police said.
The baby’s father declined to comment.
