Slaying suspect collapses in court
Charge: First-degree murder, aggravated criminal sexual assault felony murder, home invasion
Adam Belmont fainted during a bond hearing before Judge Blanche Hill Fawell, said Paul Darrah, spokesman for the DuPage County state’s attorney.
Paramedics examined Belmont, who did not require further medical attention, Darrah said.
Fawell denied Belmont’s request to have a bond set.
Belmont, 23, has been held in lieu of bond since his arrest last weekend for the Dec, 15 murder of Alyssa Van Meter, 25.
The suspect is accused of scaling the exterior wall of Van Meter’s Woodridge apartment building and entering her second-floor unit through an unlocked window.
After Van Meter confronted him, Belmont allegedly stabbed her to death and then sexually assaulted her. Police later tracked him to the Northlake home of his mother, where he was taken into custody.
Belmont reportedly confessed to Van Meter’s murder, according to prosecutors.
The couple had lived together at the apartment, but Van Meter ended their relationship about a week before the murder, authorities said.
