A 16-year-old boy pulled from Lake Michigan on the South Side Thursday night died Friday afternoon, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Romero Roundtree was pronounced dead at 5:30 p.m. at Mercy Hospital & Medical Center, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office said.
He was pulled from the lake near 39th Street by Chicago firefighters about 10:10 p.m. Thursday and taken to Mercy hospital in critical condition, a spokesman for the department said. Roundtree lived nearby, in the 3900 block of South Lake Park Avenue.
Circumstances surrounding the boy's apparent drowning weren't available Friday night.
