This weekend many of the top wrestlers from the western half of the state will be in Hays for the Bob Kuhn Classic, but first the Indians had a little city bragging rights to take care of.
And the Indians made easy work of their cross town rivals from Thomas More Prep. The Monarchs took the match at 103, but from there on out it was all Hays. The Indians got wins at every other weight class, with falls at 132 (Cade Albert), 152 (Ethan Deterding), 195 (Chandler Rule) and 220 (Cash Drylie). When the night was over the final scoreboard said Hays High 70, Thomas More Prep 6.
Also on the same mat, Phillipsburg took the opportunity for a tune up versus Spring Hill. The Broncos jumped out to an early lead, but the Panthers roared back winning six of the final nine matches. Phillipsburg got big wins in three straight matches in that run at 145 (Ross Coomes), 152 (Dylan Kinter) and 160 (Matt Schneider). The Panthers picked up the 45-31 victory.
