We've always been big fans of Manny, Sid and Diego...so, we were pretty darn excited to see Ice Age 4: Continental Drift. It was good. Not great, but good. Superstars Ray Romano, John Leguizamo and Denis Leary are back as the voices of the main characters. New additions are Wanda Sykes, as a wacky grandma, and Jennifer Lopez, as a sassy tigress.
Frankly, Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs was funnier and more exciting. I really missed the hysterical dialogue of Buck, the dapper weasel who is a bit off his rocker. The real laugh-out-loud moments were less frequent in this installment and belonged squarely to Sid: "Holy Crab!"
When Scrat's acorn hunting causes the continent to start breaking apart, the trio is marooned on a piece of ice...and sent through the ocean's wild waters where they eventually find a pirate ship filled with new characters. Visually, this adventure has some high parts...and the ship is very creative and will definitely spark the imaginations of pirate-loving little ones. Also: we enjoyed the image of "Scratlantis".
We headed to the movies on one of the extremely hot days this week...and this film is certainly a fine and harmless way to spend an afternoon. But, really, who cares what I think? Let's turn the floor over to two worthy reviewers, ages 6 and 8.
Ben: "Funny! Awesome!" (He's an easy sell.)
Sam: "I think it was - like - OK, pretty good. In the middle. Better than Rango, I think. But the third Ice Age is better. My favorite part is when they raided the ship with those hamster guys and then went home."
A decent review, if I do say so myself!
Did you and your kids see Ice Age 4? What did you think?
