JOHNSTOWN — Hope Brock's comeback victory at No. 2 singles highlighted Somerset's 3-2 victory over Bishop McCort in girls varsity tennis Thursday at Roxbury Park.

 

"She (Hope) played the best match of her young career," Somerset coach John Harris said. "The pressure was on her and she thrived on that."At No. 1 singles Somerset's Sydney Geary won 6-1, 6-3, Brock won 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 and No. 3 Jenna Abramowich lost 6-1, 6-2.

 

In No. 1 doubles Somerset's Abby Harris and Emma Coyle lost 6-1, 6-3 while No. 2 Maddy Marker and Jade Pyle prevailed 6-0, 6-0.

 

Somerset (5-2 in the LHAC) will host Forest Hills on Monday.

 

 

 

Piney Run scramble

 

GARRETT — A card-off was needed to decide first place in the Piney Run senior golf scramble Thursday.

 

First place with a 4-under par went to the team of Denny Smith, Devon Bowers and Robert Harper while the threesome of Dave Williams, Jack Johns and George Housel placed second.

 

 

Tom Lindeman sank the longest putt on hole No. 3 and Ernie Smith won the 50-50.
