SOMERSET — The Somerset swim teams swept Bishop McCort Wednesday.
The Lady Eagles won 110-54 while the boys won 102-43. The Lady Eagles' record improved to 6-0 while the boys climbed to 5-1.
Leading the Lady Eagles were team captains and quadruple winners Emily Schleich and Mary Mack. Scheich won the 100 butterfly (1:11.10) and the 100 backstroke (1:13.74). Mack posted wins in the 200 freestyle (2:22.28) and the 500 freestyle (6:27.89). Both were members of the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:57.07) along with teammates Lauren Marple and Elexsis Robison. Schleich and Mack were also members of the first place 400 freestyle relay (4:20.33) joined by teammates Robison and Danielle Owen. Marple brought in another win for the girls in the 100 breaststroke (1:26.73) while taking second place in the 500 freestyle (6:55.31). Katie Yachere won the 200 IM (2:50.44) and was runner-up in the 100 butterfly (1:20.18). Hannah Conklin placed second in the 200 IM (2:56.42).
The Eagles were led by quadruple winners Nick Bastian and Josh Stoppe. Bastian, a team captain, nailed down individual wins in the 200 (2:10.52) and 500 freestyles (5:57.69). Stoppe captured firsts in the 50 freestyle (24.87) and the 100 breaststroke (1:15.98). Both were members of the winning 200 medley relay (1:59.30) joined by teammates Shane Ickes and Christian Gehman. The same team won the 400 freestyle relay (4:06.09).
Nick Kimmel won the 100 backstroke (1:17.93). Kimmel was followed by Andy Bastian (1:32.60). The boys also swept the 200 freestyle with Gehman taking second (2:19.98) and Jim deVries third (2:43.57). deVries was second in the 500 freestyle (7:01.40).
Shane Ickes was first in the 100 freestyle (59.28) followed by Brandon Williams (1:02.60). Williams also took second in the 50 freestyle (27.39).
The relay team of Brenden Knecht, A. Bastian, Kimmel and Williams took second in the 400 freestyle relay (4:58.09) sweeping the final event of the meet.
Somerset will host its annual Laurel Highlands AA Eagle Invitational on Saturday with a 10:30 a.m. start. Somerset will compete against swim teams from Cambria Heights, Marion Center, Northern Cambria, Richland, Saltsburg and Westmont.
