5. Big-top operetta that time forgot will receive its Chicago premiere

As the young daughter of an internationally celebrated composer, Yvonne Kalman delighted in eavesdropping on conversations her father, Emmerich Kalman, had with other famed European emigres as they gathered around plates of freshly prepared Hungarian delicacies in the kitchen of the Kalmans' New York home, before the platters of food were brought out to the other party guests.

7. The Rahm identity shines through in 'Chicago Fire'

This is not a political story.
This is not a political story. This is a story about acting and the thin line between a performance and a public face. This is about aesthetics. Please do not read any ideological argument into the following or take what I am about to say as cynicism or...

11. Director William Friedkin comes home

William Friedkin, the director of “The French Connection” and “The Exorcist,” a pair of acclaimed Tracy Letts adaptations (“Bug” and “Killer Joe”) and author of “The Friedkin Connection,” a new memoir about his 50-plus-year filmmaking career, answered the door of his hotel room. It was a lousy room. “Small,” he said simply. He stepped aside to let me in, looking disappointed and resigned. He wore large, 1970s-style eyeglasses, sneakers, black socks and a black shirt. He tugged his chinos high above his waist. This is not much bigger than the one-room apartment that he grew up in at the corner of Foster Avenue and Sheridan Road, he said.

17. Reawakening the ghosts of Skokie

To me, a kid growing up in the 1960s and '70s, Skokie seemed like any other suburb, its tidy houses sitting on impeccably manicured lawns. Sure, on Friday nights and Saturday mornings you'd sometimes see Hasidic Jews strolling to and from synagogue....

“Constitution USA With Peter Sagal,” the new PBS series about the country's ever-disputed founding document, tests an important constitutional principle: that the framework for a federal government, drafted with high hopes and noble purpose back in 1787, can be taught via flush toilets, marijuana buds and a public-radio host riding a Harley.
