American racecar driver Derrike Cope was born on Nov. 3, 1958, in San Diego, Calif. In high school, he enjoyed auto racing and baseball, but a knee injury while being scouted by the major league baseball teams ended his professional baseball dreams; instead he devoted himself to racing. He won the 1990 Daytona 500, his first NASCAR competition win. He became an overnight sensation after that, appearing on the David Letterman Show that same week. Despite the major win, he ended the season in 18th place in points. 3. Prada, Baz Luhrmann fete 'Great Gatsby' costumes on starry night

Director/producer/writer Baz Luhrmann must be pretty proud of his latest offering, "The Great Gatsby," due out May 10. At least it looked that way Tuesday night in New York at Prada's cocktail reception kicking off the SoHo store's exhibit of the movie's costumes, designed by Luhrmann's wife, Oscar-winning costume designer Catherine Martin, in collaboration with fashion designer Miuccia Prada.
