1. 'The Raven'

The macabre works of Edgar Allan Poe get revisionist twists - as does legendary novelist Poe himself, as played by John Cusack - in director James McTeigue's ("V for Vendetta") crafty thriller.

  3. Larded with cliches, 'Butter' doesn't hold up ★

The art of sculpting huge blocks of fat is the focus of a strange-but-true competitive event at the Iowa State Fair. Wielding trowels with the utmost precision, carvers ply their craft in temperature-controlled booths.

  5. 'Entourage' recap: The Dana Gordon and Ari situation

Why isn't "Entourage" pulling out all of the stops in its final season? The stakes have felt small each episode (with the exception being the quickly brushed aside suicide). Last season's arc of Vince and his drug use gave the show an emotional weight it had always missed. We're now halfway through the last season and the climax it's building to feels insignificant. Episode 5, titled "Motherf-----," was long scenes of one-on-one dialogue without much action. "Entourage" has rarely asked its characters to make their characters seem relatably real or empathetic, but this episode called for actual acting. Let's break down the episode by ranking how compelling each characters' storylines felt:

  9. 'How to Train Your Dragon'

With so many animated features released these days, it takes a lot for one to stand out for originality ... and this one does, even without the 3-D effects it had in theaters. In the adaptation of the same-named Cressida Cowell book, Jay Baruchel ( "She's Out of My League") voices a young Viking-in-training named Hiccup who wants to impress his demanding father (voice of Gerard Butler) by mastering the title task.

The title has a big link to the Disney studio's history, given the same-named segment of "Fantasia" that starred Mickey Mouse, but Disney's live-action take on the theme has plentiful differences.

  13. Movie review: "Heaven's Rain"

"Heaven's Rain" is a delicate, frequently profound drama based on the 1979 home invasion murders of an Oklahoma minister and his wife, whose two children were brutally shot and terrorized in the process. Unfortunately, the resulting film needed a more objective eye and, frankly, a grittier take than the victims' son -- producer, co-writer (with Paul Brown) and costar Brooks Douglass -- was able to provide.

  19. 'She's Out of My League'

A raunchy comedy from the Judd Apatow and Farrelly brothers playbook, this amusing tale casts Jay Baruchel ("Tropic Thunder") as a rather ordinary airport security worker who can't believe he's landed a seemingly perfect beauty (Alice Eve) as his girlfriend.
