1. Goon

As a kid in the ‘70s and early ‘80s, I’d go ice skating at the House of Ice in Mira Mesa. One day I saw a poster for an upcoming hockey game there. My brother and I went, and had a blast. Mostly because a guy with a name like “Oreo” would beat up people every game.

3. American Reunion

I remember seeing the first American Pie back in 1999. It was an okay comedy. I was amazed when 30 seconds before doing the on-air review for this movie, the cameramen were telling me about how many of these films have been released (I believe a few were straight-to-video).

5. 'The Promotion'

Screenwriter Steve Conrad likes his protagonists to suffer a little en route to finding a better place and not in the usual sitcomic ways. He writes distinctive dialogue -- tart, off-kilter, full of odd little details (as in his offbeat script for the Nicolas Cage starrer "The Weather Man" and in the more conventional, true-life tale "The Pursuit of Happyness").

7. Goyer happy to bring horror to Chicago

Tribune staff reporter
Writer/director David S. Goyer liked Chicago so much while on set for "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" he returned to direct his horror movie "The Unborn." He got more than he bargained for."We had an earthquake while we were filming an exorcism...

9. Earlier Screen Testers reviews, from 'Kung Fu Panda' to 'Tropic Thunder'

Here's a sampling of our panel's opinions on some of the films that opened recently: ' Tropic Thunder' 2 1/2 stars (fair-good) Momgreenbem: This movie was terrible. I don't know how it ever got three stars. I do not know how anyone as talented as Ben...
