7. The Biblioracle defines the author-reader contract

I'm told there was a time when the primary job of writers was to squirrel themselves away and write books. The writer would emerge from his or her cave just long enough to convey the manuscript to the publishing world before re-descending to the depths to start the next one. Rinse and repeat ad infinitum.

  9. After LPGA's International Crown, more tournaments could be in Caves Valley's future

When the United States Golf Association packed up its corporate tents after the 2002 Senior Open concluded, Caves Valley returned to its roots as a private club that was selective in the tournaments it hosted. Mandated to promote the amateur ranks, the Owings Mills club welcomed a handful of events in the intervening years — none involving professionals.

Luxury designer and native Angeleno Elisabeth Weinstock knows the art of blending elegance with edge — a skill she attributes to having grown up a punk rock kid in Beverly Hills (the spiked Christian Louboutin sneakers she is wearing one recent day further validates this point).

  21. Coachella 2013: The xx, Nick Cave steal spotlight from headliners

There were two questions heading into the xx's set on the main stage of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival on Saturday night. Could a band that's evolving by stripping more out of its songs hold the attention of a large festival crowd? And would R&B singer Solange make a guest appearance for a second week in a row? Both were clearly answered. Solange unfortunately didn't appear, once again making Weekend 1 the hotter ticket, but the xx continues to transfix by turning its songs into mini pieces of performance art.
