September is Infidelity Month.
It has been so designated by ashleymadison.com, "the dating site for those already in relationships."
I'm not sure what the proper name is for people who engage in infidelity, but I guess you would call them infidels.
I suppose you could refer to them as cheaters, but I think infidels sounds less, I don't know, judgmental.
That said, I think cheaters should take precedence over infidels when it comes to country music. Take the lyrics to this old Boxcar Willie song:
"She puts on her bowling shirt gets her shoes and ball,
"Hugs all the children as she walks down the hall.
"She smiles at her husband with a kiss and a grin
"But tonight she's knows that she will be a cheatin' wife again."
See what I mean? Infidel just wouldn't work there.
Same goes for the Hank William's classic "Your Infidelin' Heart."
I had no idea infidels had their own club, nor do I know anything about Ashley Madison, although I'm pretty sure she's no one you want to be involved with romantically, particularly if you travel a lot for business.
The reason ashleymadison.com picked September to be Infidelity Month is because more people sign up there during this month than any other. (You know, far be it for me to be telling infidels how to conduct their affairs, but is officially registering as an adulterer a good idea?)
Anyway, what is interesting about September's infidelity spike, according to ashleymadison.com, is that it is achieved without the benefit of such popular sign-up boosters as Valentine's Day and Mother's Day.
Hold on, Mother's Day?
OK, Valentine's Day, you can understand, but why Mother's Day?
Is there some kind of icky Freudian thing going on here?
Or could it be that mothers themselves are signing up after their spouse has purchased yet another kitchen appliance for the kids to give her?
Also, why is it that more women in general join the ranks of ashleymadison.com in September than any other month?
Looking for a little recess of their own now that the kids are back in school?
Finally, while ashleymadison.com says its 14 million members hail from 23 countries, it also notes that their numbers show North America still leads the world in the number of registered infidels.
So proud.
