PRESTON, Md. — Curtis A. Barnhart Sr. died at Peninsula Regional Medical Center on Feb. 10, 2011. He was 55 years old.
Mr. Barnhart graduated from St. Michaels High School in 1972, and earned his associate degree in accounting from Chesapeake College in 1974. He continued his education by earning a bachelor of science degree from Salisbury University in 1977, with a concentration in accounting.
He worked for 20 years at Easton (Md.) Memorial Hospital, in the accounting and auditing department. He then went to work at the Delmarva Foundation, where he was a systems analyst. He also worked for H&R Block in Easton and Denton, Md., for 28 years.
Curtis' life revolved around the Boy Scouts of America and his family. He was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America Troop 461 in Preston for 16 years, and for Easton Troop 532 for five years, a three-time Scoutmaster for the Delmarva Council for the National Jamboree of Boy Scouts, vigil member of the Honor Society of the Boy Scouts Order of the Arrow, treasurer adviser for the Order of the Arrow, and Eagle Scout board of review chairman. During his career in Scouting, he became Wood Badge trainer and later received the Silver Beaver Award.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia C. Barnhart, whom he married April 22, 1978; his children, Elizabeth Ann Barnhart and her spouse, Robin Duhadaway, Patrick Cullen Barnhart and his wife, Amanda, Curtis A. Barnhart Jr. and his special friend, Jessica Foxwell, and Steven Andrew Barnhart; his brothers, Craig Barnhart, Christopher Barnhart and Eric Barnhart; a sister, Kathleen Barnhart; his grandchildren, Mark, Zachary and Emma; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Easton, Md., on Friday, Feb. 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton.
Burial will follow at White Marsh Cemetery (Hole in the Wall) in Trappe, Md.
