Edith Drucilla (Beckett) Becks, 81, of Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at home surrounded by family.
She was born April 18, 1931, in Hagerstown, and was a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of the late Clinton Beckett and Louise (Sims) Beckett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Becks; sisters, Edna Beckett Burns and Ivern Ashby; brother, Ralph (Bus) Beckett; guardian nephew, Clinton (Judge) Beckett; niece, Carla Smith, whom she helped raise; granddaughter, Ivern Deneen Beckett; and great-grandson, Fernando Broadus.
Edith Becks attended North Street School, where she graduated in 1949.
She was employed by the Western Maryland Hospital Center for 30 years and retired from there in 1992. She also held employment and retired from Garlock Nursing Home after 10 years of dedicated service.
She was a lifelong member of Second Christian Church at 65 W. North Ave. in Hagerstown, where she was the president of the Usher Board, a member of the CWF and the Church Board, a faithful member of Bible Study, and a deaconess.
She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Beckett of Norfolk, Va.; five sons, Charles Miner, Todd Beck and his wife, Mary Beck, Patrick Becks and Carl Becks, all of Hagerstown, and Perry Becks and his wife, Tretus Becks, of Augusta, Ga.; grandson, Antoine Becks and his wife, Michelle Becks, of Williamsport, Md.; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Greater Camphor Memorial Temple/King's Apostle Holy Church, 125 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jacquelyn Dixon will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, and Saturday one half-hour before the service at the church.
