Fred Burton Williar Sr., 82, of Hagerstown, Md., died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at his home.
Born Jan. 21, 1931 in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late Harry Franklin and Martha Helen Davis Williar.
U.S. Army Signal Corps.
He was employed with Pangborn Corporation for 43 years, retiring in January 1994.
He was also a member of Boonsboro American Legion Post 10 and Washington County AMVETS Post 10.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports, and played baseball for Hagerstown Athletics and Clear Spring, in the Washington County independent leagues.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Williar; three daughters, Cindy Williar of Hagerstown, Brenda Clinton of Mercersburg, Pa., and Darlene Shoemaker of Greencastle, Pa.; a son, Fred Williar Jr. and wife, Paula, of Lexington Park, Md.; five grandchildren, Todd Rupp, Leigh Crouse, Christopher Williar, Brett Williar and Ryan Spooner; and two great-grandchildren, Kelly Monn and Brooke Monn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Franklin Lee Williar.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Pastor Dan Pritchett will officiate. Graveside military honors will be conducted by AMVETS Post 10 and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, one hour prior to the graveside service.
