Even in a time of limited resources, things can still be accomplished, and our community continues to nurture our younger members, as well as provide support for our elders and those on the economic margins. And there is time for fun, as well.
Soup kitchen offered at church
A new soup kitchen, known as Bountiful Blessings, is offered at Hancock United Methodist Church, 170 W. Main St., for those who would benefit from a free meal.
Lunch will be available the third Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the upper room of the church.
The first meal will be served Saturday, Jan. 19.

Epiphany Sunday
Sunday is the Christian feast of the Epiphany and St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, Church and High streets, celebrates the traditional day with its annual Feast of Lights.
The last of the 12 days of the Christmas season, Epiphany helps the congregation remember the visit of the three Magi, or Wise Men.
The service begins at 5 p.m., and, at the end, features a candlelight procession, circling the inside of the church before departing, symbolizing the going forth or showing forth of the light of Christ into the world.
A potluck supper in the Parish Hall follows the service. The public is invited.

Tribute to Elvis takes place Jan. 12
The Hancock Arts Council will hold A Tribute to Elvis’ 78th Birthday on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Hancock Town Hall, 126 W. High St. Area musicians will perform some of Elvis’ greatest hits.
A hip-shaking contest will be held as part of the entertainment.
Attendees will enjoy some of Elvis’ favorite snacks and refreshments.
The event is free, with donations to benefit the Arts Council.
Be there or be square. As the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll says, “Thank you. Thank you, very much.”
School fundraiser benefits Panthers Band
Finally, don’t forget to register your Martin’s food card to benefit the Hancock Panthers Band. Rewards extend through March 30 so there is still time to help the band. The fundraiser costs participants nothing and is easy to use.
