He’s accused of turning a midnight movie premiere into a massacre in Aurora, Colorado.

But we now know that James Holmes’ shooting rampage could have happened right here in the Lone Star State.

That’s because the 24-year-old was almost an Aggie!

Holmes withdrew his application to the Texas A&M University Neuroscience Graduate Program last year.

According to documents released by the university, Holmes was among a short list of candidates who had been contacted for in-person interviews.

Holmes booked a hotel and was all set to fly to Houston’s Hobby airport, but in March 2011, he changed his mind and declined to move forward with his application.

Whoa. Talk about a close call!

Holmes was formally denied admission in May 2011 and he went on to study at the University of Colorado at Denver.

The rest, as you know, is history.

Holmes remains locked up in a Colorado jail while his lawyers prepare for an insanity defense.
