LOS ANGELES -- An Irvine man plead guilty Wednesday to movie piracy charges for posting an advance copy of "The Love Guru" on the internet.
31 year old Mischa Wynhausen of Irvine will likely be sentenced to three years probation on one count of uploading copyrighted work being prepared for commercial distribution, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Erik M. Siber. Prosecutors agreed to probation because Wynhausen cooperated with authorities.
Judge John F. Waler said restitution would likely be part of Wynhausen's sentence. Defense attorney Jennifer Keller said that it will be difficult to determine how much money the theft cost Paramount Pictures.
The "Love Guru", which stars Mike Myers, was a flop at the box office and got a Razzie Award for the worst film of 2008.
Wynhausen is the second person to be prosecuted for the theft and posting of the screener.
Last year, 28-year-old Jack Yates of Porter Ranch was sentenced to six months in federal prison for his part in the theft.
Sentencing for Wynhausen is set for March 22.
