LANCASTER, Calif. (KTLA) -- A man from Ohio is suspected of committed lewd acts with a 15-year-old girl he met on Facebook.
Michael Scheetz, 43, was arrested and booked and then charged with five felony counts on Wednesday. He is in custody with bail set at $1,275,000.
When the victim was reported to police in Lancaster as a missing person on Sunday, authorities determined she had run away from home to meet an adult male, the L.A. County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.
The suspect was located on Monday, and led deputies to a desert field in Lancaster, where the victim was found lying on the ground. The girl then told police had been sexually assaulted.
Detectives believe the suspect's reason for traveling from Westerville, Ohio to Southern California last week was to meet the girl, who he had been in touch with for around six months.
The suspect knew she was a minor, authorities said.
