LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl revealed on Wednesday that he has cancer in his pelvic area.
Rosendahl made the annoucement in a letter posted on his blog.
The cancer has caused much pain in Rosendahl's back, he said, keeping him away from City Hall over the past week.
"My doctors feel there is abundant reason for optimism," he said in the letter. "The cancer is slow-moving, has not spread to any vital organs, and does not affect my digestive system."
The councilman vowed to win and complete a third term in office despite the illness.
"The doctors are confident they can get the pain under control so I can return to work while I undergo treatment, he said.
