LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- More drivers were arrested for driving under the influence so far this holiday weekend in Orange County versus last year, California Highway Patrol officials said Saturday.
While no deaths have been reported in Orange County, DUI arrests are up 16 percent this year to 44. Last year, 37 were arrested for drunk driving during the same time.
Statewide, 840 arrests were made, a decrease from 903 in 2011.
Statistics released by the CHP represent deaths and DUIs on roads across California during the 60-hour span between Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 6 a.m. The holiday reporting period runs through Sunday at midnight.
Since Thursday, 17 people have been killed throughout the state, three more than last year.
Statistics have not yet been released for Los Angeles or Ventura Counties.
