Anchorage police are asking for your help, tonight (Saturday), solving a deadly mystery.
Early this morning (saturday) a man was found lying mortally wounded in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the Russian Jack section of the city.
The unidentified victim had been shot repeatedly, and died just before 2 in the morning.
It happened at the San Roberto apartments.
Witnesses say they heard a series of perhaps half a dozen gunshots -- in rapid succession -- then screaming.
It was all over in just a few seconds.
Then, a short time later, a wounded man showed up at an area hospital. He's been identified as 19-year-old Samuel Davis.
Because of the timing, police believe their may be a link between the dead man in the parking lot, and Davis showing up -- with gunshot wounds -- at the hospital not long afterwards.
But on Saturday, investigators were unable to question Davis. He was so badly wounded that he was listed in critical condition.
Meanwhile investigators have not released the identity of the man who died in the parking lot.
One witness said the shooting victim's stomach was soaked with blood as a police officer tried to compress his chest, administering cardio resuscitation.
He died a short time later at the hospital.
Late Saturday, police removed a rifle from the crime scene. But there's no word on what, if any, role it played in the shooting.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to call them at 786-8900.
