The USDA is expanding its recall of prepared meats that contain black pepper tainted with salmonella.

The same strain of salmonella that sickened more than 200 people in 42 states, including Alaska, has been found in black pepper, including pepper that coats salami and sausage made by Daniele Foods.

The company recalled more than 1 million pounds of meat when several people got sick after eating it.

Federal officials are now trying to figure out if contaminated pepper was sold directly to consumers, or in any other prepared foods.
