You only have a couple more weeks to apply for the Emergency Homeowner Loan Program offered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The deadline is July 22.
Jan Jones with the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Alaska says the State of Alaska has enough money from the loan to offer 73 people assistance with paying their mortgage.
The loan is zero-percent interest, and is meant to help people who have suffered a loss of income from things like a company layoff or increased medical expenses.
You must be at least three months delinquent on your mortgage by June 1st to qualify.
First, the federal loan will help pay past-due balances on mortgages, and then it would help subsidize up to two years of mortgage payments with an amount of money to boost up your monthly income up to 85 percent of its previous income. Each loan will max out at $50,000.
