Virginia State Senator Richard Saslaw did not buy medical marijuana in Sacramento, but Sacramento County's Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force says a couple who took his identity did.
Barnell Washington and Sky Manriquez are accused of changing Senator Saslaw's address to a place on Fulton Avenue, getting a credit card with the lawmaker's name and buying things like medical marijuana, bongs and meals. The task force is still looking for the suspects, and believe the couple is now in Fresno with friends or family.
"It's not been determined yet whether they knew they were actually taking the senator's identity. If it were true, that would certainly be a brazen crime," says Detective Sean Smith.
Authorities says there's a whole network of sites that buy and sell credit card information on the black market. We're not sure if that happened to Senator Saslaw, but it goes to show you that anyone can be a victim.
