Fitness Story by Rachel Burbridge
7:16 AM AKST, November 5, 2012
I would just like to share what keeps me motivated to exercise. I am a Cox College nursing student. I graduate in December and start working in the ER at Cox South in January.
I read in the Journal of Nursing Administration that about 55% of nurses that were surveyed were obese. Being in the health care setting, we are often educating people on healthy lifestyles. I do not wish to be a, "Do as I say, not as I do" nurse. I would like for my patients to look at me and realize I take healthy living seriously. There are zero excuses.
I realize how busy people are, I have been there. But if we ignore ourselves and do not take the time to take care of us, who will? We (some fellow classmates and professors) are trying to start a fitness movement across the health care field. We call ourselves The Pace Makers. We promote fitness, we promote healthy living, and we promote having a great time doing it. We support each other and motivate each other to keep going. We are always trying to spread the word about the next walk/run we are participating in, and try to get as many people to walk/run with us as possible.
The Pace Makers will be at the Camo Run, the Greenways 5k, the Turkey trot, the Jingle Bell run, and possibly others in between. We are excited about the fitness movement. :)
Thank you for your time, -Rachel Burbridge
Editor's Note: Rachel finished the Ozark Greenways 5k in 32:49. KY3 is asking for your fitness stories. If you have one, send it to us at email@example.com.
