NEW JERSEY
Capt. Dave Riback of the Queen Mary from Point Pleasant Beach (732-899-3766) http://www.njqueenmary.com: Capt. Dave reports a quick turn of events last weekend from terrible fishing all week with only a few stripers and the occasional bluefish. The stripers and bluefish appeared overnight last Friday and gave a spectacular weekend. Saturday saw many customers with limits plus bonus tag stripers for Jim Gillespie's 44-inch, 35-pound pool winner, captured on a live bunker. Jim and Janet combined for four stripers and some bluefish. The afternoon trip Saturday provided super jigging for blues. Tim Nish and crew were all smiles after three hours with blues in the 4-12 pound range. Green-tailed A-27 worked best, but most anything was being eaten. Dean caught a limit of blues on top water plugs. Sunday saw lots of blues with some stripers.
The Tackle Box in Hazlet (732-264-7711) http://www.striperspecial.com: Phil says fishing has been good with fluking in the Sandy Hook bay. Striper fishing is good in the ocean off Long Branch using bunker with guys landing 50-plus pound stripers. Bluefish are in Raritan Bay. It should be a great weekend.
BARNEGAT BAY
Brielle Tackle (732-528-5720) http://www.brielletackle.com: Greg says ling fishing is still good, but the weather put a lid on it for a few days. The striped bass boat had a lot of success with a decent amount of bluefish in the mix. Blues and fluke are in the river.
LITTLE EGG INLET
Scott's Bait & Tackle (609-296-1300) http://www.scottsbt.com: Scott says fluke are being caught in the Great Bay, but it was a slow week because of the early-week weather conditions. Fishing has been mediocre at best and not in full swing. Bluefish haven't settled in yet, and blowfish never really turned on. All the good action is in the ocean and up north. Sea bass opens on Saturday, so that should help put things back in gear.
DELAWARE
REHOBOTH BEACH
Old Inlet Bait & Tackle (302-227-7974) http://www.oldinlet.com: Andy says they've weighed in quite a few 20-pound rockfish off the inlet that were caught on bunker. On Wednesday night and Thursday morning, the rock pile gave up a few in the 20-30-pound range on swim shad. The shop is seeing 20-pound fish every day. The inlet is filled with shad, and it seems like bluefish are moving through every other day.
