Even though she did not make the U.S. Olympic team, Easton's Chanelle Price continues to make news in running.
Price came within a whisker of breaking the 2-minute barrier in the 800-meters at the 2012 Flanders Cup Meet in Ninove, Belgium, last Saturday.
Price ran a personal record 2:00.15 to finish third in the 22nd Memorial Rasschaert, behind winner Maggie Vessey's winning time of 1:59.98 and former Tennessee teammate Erica Moore's time of 2:00.05.
Price graduated from Tennessee this year and has started her pro career.
L.V. Road Runners: The area's biggest running club is holding the fourth of its Summer Series 5K runs 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday from the Lehigh Valley Road Runners clubhouse in the Lehigh Parkway.
The Summer Series 5Ks are free and open to the public. The group ends each event with a covered dish pot luck picnic, so if you plan on going, plan on bringing a dish along to make some new friends or reconnect with old friends.
LVRR is also holding a pretty unique two-some relay 6 p.m. Wedneday, Sept. 12, from the clubhouse. Each team must be made up of a male and female, and the age group is based on the total ages of the two runners. The tag team event features a 5K for both runners with the males running first, and then tagging their partners to begin the second 5K.
Wild in the Zoo: Run Wild at the Lehigh Valley Zoo on Sunday, Aug. 19. The 10K and 5K races begin at 8 a.m with registration scheduled for 7-7:45 a.m. There is also a 1-mile family fun walk at 9:50 a.m. To register in advance, go online to http://www.lvzoo.org.
Run Ferris, Run: The Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs and East Penn Foot and Ankle Assoicates of Allentown are teaming up for the iRUNpigs 5K on Sunday, Sept. 16 at Coca Cola Park in Allentown. There is a special Piglet Run for kids 12-and-under as well as a 1.5-mile walk.
Proceeds from the race go to Iron Pigs Charities, which provide education and recreational opportunities for children in the Lehigh Valley area.
The 5K begins at 9 a.m. with a 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. registration. The Walk and Piglet Run will both begin at 9:45 a.m. with an 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. registration period.

Volunteers needed: The LVHN Marathon for Via, which includes a marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, kids race and family fun walk, is in need of volunteers for race day weekend Sept. 8-9.
More than 3,600 runners and walkers take part in the annual event, which raises money to benefit Via. Volunteers receive a free T-shirt and work in shifts ranging from two to six hours, and can start as early as 5:30 a.m. depending on their assignment, which can include anything from working at packet pickup to hydration station or serving as cheerleaders and course marshals. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult in order to volunteer.

New face at Community Bike Works: Kim Schaffer has been named the associated executive director of Community Bike Works in Allentown, assisting executive director Stefan Goslawski.
Schaffer's position is a new one for the community nonprofit, which helps at-risk children learn work-ethic alternatives to gangs, drugs and street life. Children ages 9-17 gather at Community Bike Works after school and on weekends to do homework and learn basic bike mechanics while being mentored by adults and peers. Children successful in the program can earn a bicycle.
Schaffer joined Community Bike Works after serving on the staff of Northampton County's Department of Community and Economic Development. She spent 10 years on the semiorn management team at the National Low Income Housing Coalition in Washington, D.C. She is a graduate of Lycoming College with a master's in urban planning and policy from the University of Illinois.
