Random Facebook/Twitter trolling over the past few days screams that it's "Game On!" between 'Noles and Gators. They are at each other's throats again, and world order has been restored.
Whew! Thank you, Gridiron Gods, for we have missed the crazy yadda yadda.
Seriously, how boring has it been the past few years, when the Florida State Seminoles and the Florida Gators have been reduced to marginal spectators in terms of relevance in college football?
The 'Noles made it to the ACC title game in 2010 but lost. The Gators last won an SEC East title in 2009, when a certain Mr. Tebow was taking snaps.
This recent brief lapse is unacceptable. Football fans in the state of Florida are an arrogant bunch, and rightfully so. The Big Three -- yes, the Miami Hurricanes were once great too -- have traditionally been front-runners for national championships.
The axis of power in the Sunshine State has led to a combined 10 national championships since 1983. The good times have rolled for years, along with the trash-talking among fans. And while the Hurricanes are still having to keep things on the down-low, Gators and Seminoles are barking loudly to anyone who will listen. Or anyone who prefers not to. Both are Top 10 teams, and could rise higher in the weeks to come.
Is it too early to began the war chant for Nov. 24th?
That's the date for the annual Florida-Florida State bloodbath, this time in Tallahassee.
There are a few housekeeping chores before both of these teams go into this game with only one loss and a BSC slot hanging on the outcome.
The Gators have one more SEC game remaining -- Missouri this weekend -- before feasting on a pair of cupcakes: Louisiana and Jacksonville State. The 'Noles have a tougher road. After this weekend's bye, they are on the road at Virginia Tech and Maryland before facing the Gators.
There are no gimmies here. Consider that the Seminoles are averaging 26.7 points on the road compared with 54 at home.
"We just need to play one at a time," FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said. "We need to play better ... and learn to play on the road well."
The Seminoles are still lamenting the one that got away -- N.C. State -- that cost them a shot at the national title.
But beating the Gators in Tallahassee would be a fabulous consolation prize. As for Florida, beating FSU would help ease the hangover from the World's Largest Cocktail Party, when the Gators offense went on a bender against Georgia. It wasn't a typical SEC slobberknocker game. It was four hours of nauseating, embarrassing offense.
FSU fans duly noted that -- with much glee -- last weekend. Florida fans had to pretty much sit back and take the abuse, hoping for payback on the 24th.
This is old-school Florida-Florida State football, once again, with meaning.
You only have 23 more days of getting your cheap shots in fans.
Make 'em count.
And woe to the loser. You may need to shut down your computer for weeks.
