The annual Alternative Gift Fair is in its seventh year of simplifying shopping and raising funds for local community organizations dedicated to providing essential health and human services in this region.
This year, the event takes place 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Petoskey United Methodist Church, 1804 E. Mitchell St.
The Alternative Gift Fair shopping list includes gifts from the following nonprofits: Harbor Springs Community Food Pantry, Great Start Preschool Scholarships, Community Free Clinic, Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency, The Manna Food Project, The Nehemiah Project, Kids Hope USA, Planned Parenthood of West and Northern Michigan, Project Connect, Women's Resource Center of Northern Michigan and Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity.
Those who purchase gift cards will be helping these agencies meet critical community needs in the areas of food, life essentials, education and health care. Locally-based organizations with community outreach stretching across the globe will also be on hand including SAME-South African Medical Expedition, Friendship with Cambodia and South American Women Weaving Cooperative.
During the event, shoppers visit with nonprofit representatives and select gifts to purchase and donate in honor of those on their shopping list. The nonprofits provide each donor with a card describing the gift that has been purchased to present to gift recipients. Holiday greeting cards to enclose the gift cards are offered as a complimentary service, as well as calligraphy of gift card enclosures. Shoppers may also purchase lunch items offered by Julienne Tomatoes.
Those unable to attend the Alternative Gift Fair may visit www.agfpetoskey.org to view the shopping list and participate by mail. For more information, contact Kathy Hart at (231) 347-8852.
