Work is to start Monday with a completion date of Nov. 1 for the $425,000 Petoskey Geriatric Care Center Inc., which will be located on six acres of land on the west side of U.S. 131 near the end of Sheridan Street.
Final papers for the $340,000 loan were completed in Grand Rapids by Harry Gruber, president of the corporation; Weslie Witte, a vice president and Martin Breighner, secretary-treasurer.
Contractor will be Robert O. Nelson of Ludington, and engineer is the Petoskey firm of Marshall & Wooden, Architects, Inc,
The center will have an ultimate capacity of 78 beds and will open as soon as possible after Nov. 1.
The center will overlook Little Traverse Bay. It will have medical supervision by two Petoskey doctors; nursing care licensed and approved by the state; around the clock respiratory therapy supervision; ambulatory or bed care; complete and supervised physical therapy department; a rehabilitation program; private or semi-private rooms; bathroom adjoining every room; recreation rooms; special dietary service with dining room or tray service and air conditioning.
A brochure published by the center states that it would provide care for seniors citizens and relieve the serious shortage of modern fire-safe nursing and convalescent facilities.
Harbor Springs High School senior Pat Gokee received a number two rating at the State Music Festival, Mount Pleasant, where she presented a cornet solo. She was accompanied there by band director, Joseph Jeziek of Harbor Springs. Ratings ranged from one to five with number one being the highest rating.
She merited the trip after receiving a number one rating at the recent Spring Festival held at Charlevoix.
Pat is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gokee of Harbor Springs.
Devotions based on James Merchant's "Halfway to the Sky" were presented by Mrs. Bruce Blanchard Tuesday evening when members of the Petoskey Study Club met at the home of Mrs. Walter Baker.
For the program, Mrs. Darlene Thompson explained the effective use of makeup, and demonstrated her talk with Mrs. Albert Schaller as her model.
Mrs. Rosemarie Croff and Mrs. Janet Kerridge assisted as co-hostesses.
W. W. Fairbairn & Sons in Alanson advertised its spring water heater sale. A 52 gallon electric water heater with fast recovery and 10 year protective policy was "Only $88.88" and a 30 gallon gas water heater with fast recovery and 10 year protective policy was "Only 69.95."
Area senior high school and college students are invited to have a ball at the record hop Saturday night at Lincoln school from 8-11:45 p.m.
The dance will be the first in a series of 10 to be sponsored by the Petoskey Jaycees, and Jaycees and their wives will attend as chaperones. Bruce Morgan and Jerry Rosevear will be disc jockeys, and promise a varied selection of top hits to dance to.
Refreshments will be available and door prizes will be featured. Students in ninth grade through age 20 are invited and may obtain tickets at the door.
