Unpredictable gas prices went up by 1 or 2 cents Friday at many area gas stations but dropped by 3 cents at one station.
Prices at Petoskey Imperial dropped from 94.9 cents to 91.9 cents for both regular and unleaded this past weekend. Petoskey Imperial is a self-serve station.
The decrease was ordered by the station’s main office in Mount Pleasant, manager Debbie Broman said.
“I don’t know, “Broman responded when asked what inspired the decrease. “The main guy ordered it to come down.”
Prices at stations in Boyne City, Charlevoix and East Jordan went up over the weekend.
In Boyne City, prices at Mel’s Service increased from 97.9 to 98.9 on both regular and no-lead. Mel’s is a self-serve station.
Station attendant Doug Erforth said prices were about 92 or 93 cents a gallon on Memorial Day and he foresees them exceeding $1a gallon by the end of summer. He’s heard predictions that prices could go as high as $1.10.
Stafford’s Bay View Inn defeated Harbour Inn on the Bay 251.6 inches to 195.8 inches in the world’s longest tug of war.
Phillip Hannan of Wyoming, Mich., took the lead in the News-Review summer fish contest with a 1 pound, 10 ounce perch taken from the Petoskey pier. The entry was officially weighed at Tom & Dick’s Grocery in Petoskey.
Alanson south side block party was held in the Alanson Village Park to welcome all new residents on the south side of the village. Sixty two people attended the the party and plans are being made to make this event an annual affair.
The Petoskey Fire Department is cracking down on illegal fireworks this year, and warning people that even the small sparkler can pose a danger.
Fireworks are dangerous and in Michigan many are illegal for personal use.
As the Fourth of July approaches, authorities are on the lookout for illegal devices.
