1. A new GOP, or just a cosmetic touchup?

Maybe the party is finally over.
Maybe the party is finally over. Meaning not simply the Grand Old Party, but more specifically the bacchanal of the bizarre and carnival of crazy to which it has lately devolved. So obvious has this devolution become that even Republican stalwarts...

The Baltimore Sun
Much of Friday's political-media online chatter was focused on Fox news hiring failed presidential candidate and pizza executive Herman Cain as a political analyst. But the big story that seemed to mostly sail under the radar was the embattled channel's...

7. Herman Cain hire makes Fox News look desperate

After dumping Sarah Palin and Dick Morris, Fox News has hired Scott Brown and now Herman Cain as a contributor.
The Baltimore Sun
After dumping Sarah Palin and Dick Morris, Fox News has hired Scott Brown and now Herman Cain as a contributor. The first three moves made some sense, especially the two firings. Palin's fling with fame was over, and the sleaze attached to Morris had...

9. In tea party response to Obama, Paul embraces immigration reform

WASHINGTON – In his tea party-sponsored rebuke to President Obama’s State of the Union address Tuesday night, Sen. Rand Paul will say Republicans should be the party that embraces immigrants as “assets, not liabilities.”

11. Rand Paul gives tea party response to Obama

WASHINGTON – In the tea party rebuke to President Obama’s vision of the state of the union – and some in his own party – Republican Sen. Rand Paul laid out a deeply conservative alternative that includes cutting corporate taxes in half and slashing trillions in federal spending.

13. Sarah Palin had her season of fun

I’m not ready to let go, I’m just not.
I’m not ready to let go, I’m just not. It’s hard for me to read the headlines: “End of the line for Sarah Palin;” “Sarah Palin’s fall from media stardom;” “Saying farewell to Sarah Palin.”...

15. 10 years seems like only yesterday

When the going's good, America often kicks God to the curb. But, "Let things come undone, and God gets the call. As if God were some celestial Saint Bernard that arrives not with a barrel of schnapps strapped beneath his neck but an abundant supply of consolation."

I'm not sure what the more conservative members of the CoS community think about David Frum, former Bush 43 speechwriter who's now on the outs with movement types, but here is some of what he has to say in a......

Bob Costas has never been bashful about speaking his mind, whether the issue at hand is gravely serious (Jerry Sandusky) or decidedly less so (NBC’s short-lived sitcom “Animal Practice”). But during halftime of Sunday’s game...

21. Revenge of the 1%: Stiffing waiters

As a kid, I was always disappointed at Halloween when a simple "trick or treat" was met by a well-meaning neighbor with a Bible tract in lieu of candy. Sure, I was raised in a churchgoing family, but Halloween was for indulging in sugar, not soul-saving, of all things.

23. Tom Z's Highly Unethical College Football Gambling Picks: Army-Navy and the Heisman Trophy

Well, the season is over. It ended somewhat anti-climactically with a predictable Kansas State win, a mediocre showing by Florida State against an inferior opponent, and a highly questionable decision that kept Georgia from playing for the title. (Spike the damn ball!) While it sucks that we won’t get to enjoy college football Saturdays for eight more months, at least we get to witness bowl season, one of the greatest experiences in sports. Yeah, college football’s method of choosing a champion is suspect, but you can’t beat having three straight weeks with a bowl game nearly every night. I’ll take a Baylor-UCLA Holiday Bowl over a rerun of “Revolution” or some reality show about screaming old hags any day. Not that I would watch screaming hags or “Revolution” normally. Unless they somehow combined them into one show, where people with bows hunted down the Real Housewives. That I would definitely watch. Wait, what were we talking about? Ah yes. I will admit that this year’s bowl lineup seems weaker than usual, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see some competitive and exciting games in the coming weeks.
