The year 2012 was a disaster for the Republican Party. They failed to regain control of the U.S. Senate. They lost eight seats in the House of Representatives. They didn't just lose the White House to Barack Obama, they got clobbered: losing the Electoral College, 332 to 206, and losing the popular vote by almost 5 million.
