  1. 'Blades of Glory'

Based on the number of prominent cameos by figure skating royalty in the pas de deux comedy "Blades of Glory," the world of toe loops, double axels and triple lutzes has a pretty good sense of humor. And that's a good thing because the movie, which stars Will Ferrell and Jon Heder as rival skaters forced to team up, leaves no sacred cow or salchow untipped (although it appears to be devoid of Dick Button references).

  3. Blades of Glory

The cleverest stunt in "Blades of Glory" doesn't come on the ice, but in the movie's very concept: How do you make a knuckleheaded comedy for dudes, complete with vomit and jock-strap jokes, about the sequin-spangled world of figure skating? Will Ferrell...

  5. From the beginning, it falls apart for Meissner

There was no America in Skate America this year on the women's side of the ticket.
There was no America in Skate America this year on the women's side of the ticket. Kimmie Meissner's comeback yesterday derailed in a series of falls and poorly executed jumps that left her in eighth place out of 11 skaters. Injured U.S. champion Mirai...

After a season that started with a win, bottomed out in January and regained some altitude with a seventh-place finish at the World Figure Skating Championships this week, what does Kimmie Meissner do now?

  9. Figure skating outfits that landed it -- or not

Figure skating fans may thrill to the jumps and spins, but it's the pageantry that keeps us watching. Sometimes a skater wears the costume; sometimes it's the other way around. Here's a snapshot of memorable (and a few forgettable) style moments in skating history.

  11. The pull of the sequined vortex

There are certain inevitabilities to any figure skating competition. Plastic-wrapped flowers and stuffed animals will be thrown onto the ice. The audience will gasp at a botched triple Lutz, then break into mild applause for encouragement's sake. A gangly teenager will perform to music from an opera in which the soprano is either stabbed or leaps to her death.
