I’ve noticed that people tend to pay more attention if you can somehow work a sports theme into your message. It’s no accident that politicians lard their language with stomach-turning clichés like “home run,” “full-court press,” “move the ball down the field,” and “game changer” in an attempt to add punch to their speeches and penetrate the carapace of apathy that shields the lumpenproletariat from civic involvement.
