It must be pit bull hunting season in Florida.
When the woman jogger was suddenly confronted by three pit bulls, Steven Lamb exited his Tampa home -- armed with a handgun, according to a news release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Lamb confronted the pit bulls, who took off running; the 54-year-old armed man then pursued the dogs on foot, deputies said.
The jogger told deputies she then heard shots fired and saw the dogs run from between two houses.
Two of the pit bulls had been shot. The 10-month-old female was shot in the face and hip area and had to be put down; the 10-month-old male was shot in the left side, the release stated.
Another pit bull, a 2-year-old, was not injured.
Deputies also discovered that a home across the pond from where the shooting took place had a rear sliding glass door shot out and the bullet pierced a kitchen wall. There were four people in the residence at the time, two of which were children, ages 10 and 12, the release stated.
