A fire reported Sunday afternoon on the eastern and western sides of the Colorado River in the Imperial National Wildlife Refuge and Picacho State Recreation area was 50 percent contained as of Tuesday morning, according to a statement from the Bureau of Land Management.

About 3,100 acres have been burned.

Imperial County firefighters were on the scene and released Sunday night, one official said. They were called back Monday morning for structure protection.

While threats to structures have been reduced, “three shade structures and one fence in the Picacho State Recreation Area have been destroyed,” states the press release.
