1. Will the Ravens turn to Harrison Smith in first round?

The Ravens lost former Notre Dame safety Tom Zbikowski to the Indianapolis Colts in free agency. Could they replace him with another Golden Domer?
The Ravens lost former Notre Dame safety Tom Zbikowski to the Indianapolis Colts in free agency. Could they replace him with another Golden Domer? ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay certainly thinks so. In his latest mock draft, McShay projects the Ravens to...

3. Ravens news, notes and opinions

As we head into Week Four of free agency, it’s probably a good time to point out that the Ravens are currently just $1.75 million under the salary cap, which is probably right around the amount of money that they’re going to need to pay their draft picks. There are certainly ways to gain financial flexibility. Signing quarterback Joe Flacco or running back Ray Rice or even cornerback Lardarius Webb to long-term contract extensions would help immensely. Restructuring a couple of contracts, like perhaps Ed Reed’s deal, would also provide relief, though Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti has said on several occasions that he prefers not to resort to those measures. There is also the option of releasing some players, but as I’ve said on numerous occasions, I just don’t see any obvious candidates. Either way, the Ravens will figure out a way. They’ll have to. They still have too many needs right now – pass rusher, veteran running back, wide receiver, two or three offensive linemen, kick returner, defensive line, linebacker and safety depth – to expect to fill all their holes in the draft.

7. Matt Vensel's 2012 NFL mock draft -- version 3.0

The 2012 NFL draft is three weeks away, and though most teams have solidified their draft boards barring a few tweaks after prospects visit, the “silly season” of draft rumors is really starting to heat up. Need an example? How about the...

9. With a long list of needs, upcoming NFL draft will be crucial to Ravens

The first round of the 2012 NFL draft is three weeks away, and the Ravens have a similar list of needs as they did when free agency began four weeks ago.

11. Matt Vensel's 2012 NFL mock draft -- version 4.0

The 2012 NFL draft is now just over a week away. Free agency has died down, and teams are shifting their focus to the draft to round out their rosters. The Ravens are no exception. Their primary needs are still the same as they were entering the offseason: offensive line help, a pass rusher and a receiver.

Tenth in a series exploring the April 26-28 NFL draft. Next: Defensive ends. There are more teams looking for safeties than there are desirable safeties in this draft. As a result, look for some to be drafted too high. Aside from Mark Barron, there aren'...

15. It seems Emery knows what he's doing

My advice for Phil Emery days before running his first NFL draft as Bears general manager is to address the receiver issue before anything else.

19. Matt Vensel's 2012 NFL mock draft -- version 5.0

Finally, after months of teams poking and prodding NFL draft prospects, scouts picking apart players they had previously pumped up, and media folks like me doing hours of homework trying to make sense of it all, the 2012 NFL draft is less than 48 hours away. I would be lying if I told you that part of me wasn’t ready for all of this just to be over and done with, but still, draft weekend is easily my favorite weekend on the NFL calendar.
