  5. Campfire Ball makes kids happy campers

    With decor reminiscent of a trip to the Northwoods of Wisconsin, Venue One was transformed May 19 into a grown-up version of summer camp complete with signs pointing the way to cabins and the lake for the fifth annual Campfire Ball. More than 700 people came out to support the event benefiting Children's Oncology Services' One Step at a Time program. This year-round program for kids with cancer offers camp experiences and educational opportunities with more than 350 volunteer counselors and a fully staffed medical team on hand.

    Former Chicago Bear, Desmond Clark, hosts the inaugural "Pro" Bowler Charity Challenge to benefit his 88 Wayz Youth Organization on May 22, 2012, from 6 to 10 pm at the 10pin Bowling Lounge. The event boasts 25 local Chicago celebrities, from athletes to media personalities, showing off their "pro ball" skills on the bowling lane. Guests have the opportunity to mingle and bowl with their favorite athletes, all while supporting a meaningful mission to further develop today's youth.
