1. Morning Shootaround: Analyzing Maryland's loss to Kentucky

Welcome back to Morning Shootaround, which will be a regular feature this season the day after Maryland basketball games. While we can’t bring you into the Terps’ locker room after games – reporters haven’t been allowed in there since the last couple of years under Gary Williams – we will recap what was said in the press conference afterward by Maryland coach Mark Turgeon and his players. We will give some of our own insight into what transpired on the court during the previous night’s game and what the Terps will be working on at practice looking ahead to their next game.

The debut of Maryland center Alex Len tonight against Albany brings to mind other first games for former Terps. Coming into College Park, most were more celebrated than 7-footer from the Ukraine, but few were as important as Len could be to this season’s Maryland team.

7. June 27, 1996: Philadelphia makes Iverson the No. 1 draft choice

Daily Press
Four months into an improbable academic and athletic odyssey, Allen Iverson has apparently built a sturdy foundation at Georgetown University. ``This is where I want to be in my life right now,'' Iverson said Monday during his first interview since his...

9. K.C. Johnson's Bulls mailbag

Sadly, I never found Steve Kerr in Phoenix to ask him if he can bench press 250 pounds. However, I did drive past a roadside hut in Houston that had two signs out front: "Beer." "Ammunition." Supply your own punch line while I supply some answers.

11. All about business—and burgers

The Bulls keep insisting they're focusing on their business, not the scoreboard, but the ramifications for losing the Eastern Conference's second seed are becoming clearer and more ominous.

13. Ask Sam Smith

As for Pau Gasol, forget it. I remember during his draft year reading his mom is a doctor and doesn't want him playing too hard so he can become one after the NBA. Hence one reason he is weak. I say run out the course with the current team and if you...

15. Ask Sam Smith, Part I

Survey says ... Brandon Roy. The results of my unscientific survey show that Bulls fans prefer the team draft the U. of Washington guard over big men LaMarcus Aldridge and Tyrus Thomas. An unscientific survey, by the way, is usually where we make up...

17. Changes pay off in end

Tribune staff reporter
Drastic changes to the starting lineup didn't ignite the Bulls the way coach Scott Skiles had hoped Friday night against the Hornets--at least not initially. The move began paying off in the second quarter as Ben Gordon, joined by Othella Harrington,...

They found inspiration in the raised fist Malik Allen lifted gingerly as paramedics carted the Bulls center out on a stretcher. Chris Duhon displayed similar toughness by insisting on playing with an aching jaw and then stepping forward on a defensive...

21. Bulls not up to challenge

The ultimate measure of a man, someone once said, is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
Tribune pro basketball reporter
The ultimate measure of a man, someone once said, is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. That man, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., wasn't referring to something as...

23. Proving their coach correct

Tribune staff reporter
Sometimes Bulls coach Scott Skiles sounds like the only believer. Last season when the Bulls slumped badly, losing nine straight, he continually said his players would come around and, sure enough, the Bulls did in a dramatic turnaround. In recent...
