5. Gourmet Vegetarian Fare At Six Main

The food at Six Main is outstanding. And it's made almost entirely from plants. The dishes themselves sound like simple, hearty fare: chowder, pasta, meatloaf, gelato. But some culinary alchemy transforms raw veggies into pasta and avocado into ice cream. There's no fish in the chowder, no meat in the meatloaf. 7. Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts Hosting a Student Art Competition

It's not enough to just foster arts programming in schools. When our children take an interest or show a talent in the arts, their love and talent must also be fostered with care, opportunity and experience. The Shoreline Arts Alliance has hosted a juried comeptition and exhibition of student art for 30 years, and this year's exhibit opens Feb. 21 at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, in the Sill House Gallery. Students either living or attending high school in shoreline towns (Branford, Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Durham, East Haven, East Lyme, Essex, Guilford, Haddam, Killingworth, Lyme, Madison, Middlefield, North Branford, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, Salem and Westbrook) are eligible to compete for thousands of dollars in prizes, and the recognition a budding artist thrives on.

  19. Property of the Week: Seaside Village

Some of Marty Widness’ fondest memories of growing up were the six weeks each year that she and her family spent at Hawk’s Nest Beach in Old Lyme. Days filled with playing on the sand, swimming in Long Island Sound and eating ice cream were unforgettable. Now retired, she and her husband, Ed, decided to ensure that their grandchildren would have similar memories of growing up. The Glastonbury couple purchased a second home in Niantic’s Seaside Village.
