On tonight's WGN News at Five, we're getting a tour of the new Walgreen's flagship store in Bucktown / Wicker Park. The company spent the last two years restoring and renovating the Noel State Bank Building. It was erected in 1921, but has been sitting vacant since 2005. The new Walgreen's store incorporates some of the old bank elements, like the basement vault which is now home to the vitamin section.

  15. All but the drawl

From one end of the United States to the other, Southern cooking is hot. And while Chicago doesn't abound with Southern dining options, restaurants like Big Jones, Table Fifty-Two and The Southern — to say nothing of our growing crop of Southern-informed barbecue spots — ensure that the options we do have are formidable.

  17. Interview: RZA head over heels for directing

Any rapper can star in a movie, but starring, directing, co-writing and co-scoring a studio film? Even for a man who calls directors Quentin Tarantino and Eli Roth friends, that’s almost unheard of within the hip-hop world. And yet, it’s no surprise RZA (real name: Robert Fitzgerald Diggs) would want to test that mostly uncharted territory.

If we knew exactly what made restaurants successful, then there would be no unsuccessful ones. But the business is unpredictable and customers fickle; some mediocre concepts seemingly last forever, while genuinely worthy enterprises wither on the vine.
