(WGN-AM)-Three men were killed and a fourth injured in a head-on collision involving a taxicab and a passenger car on Lake-Cook Road in Kildeer, police said.
Both drivers in the crash were dead on the scene at Lake-Cook Road and Park Hill Drive in Kildeer and one of two passengers in the crash died after being taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington following the crash, said Kildeer Police Commander Robert Zujewski.
The Lexus driver was identified as Alonso Ramos-Gomez, 22, of West Dundee, Ill and the passenger who was killed in Ramos-Gomez's vehicle was Octavio Carrera, 23, of Palatine. All three men died of multiple trauma injuries from the crash, Keller said.
The crash involved a taxicab and a gray Lexus which were driving on Lake-Cook Road, Zujewski said. Information about whether the cars may have been speeding was not being released, although investigators did measure skid marks at the crash scene, Zujewski said. There was no indication whether alcohol or drugs may have been involved in the crash.
The driver of the Lexus, who was wearing his seatbelt, had to be extracted from the vehicle; whether the other victims were wearing seatbelts was not immediately known, Zujewski said.
A fourth person involved in the crash -- a second passenger from the Lexus -- was being treated at Good Shepherd with minor injuries after being taken to the hospital by a Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District ambulance, Zujewski said.
Few additional details were being released as the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team investigated. That group did a crash test regarding the incident and was working to reconstruct the crash, he said. A final report -- including more about what might have happened and who may have been at fault -- is not expected for more than a week, Zujewski said.
Investigators were seeking subpoenas for the so-called black boxes -- computer devices that record the actions of recent-model autos -- for the two cars to better understand what happened, Zujewski said.
Several local police and fire departments assisted in responding to the crash, including the Barrington Police Department and the Barrington Fire Department.
